Lake Mitchell Dam, is an earth filled embankment dam across the Mitchell River located about 20 kms north of Mareeba, in Far North Queensland, Australia. The Mitchell River flows about 750 kilometres northwest across Cape York Peninsula from Mareeba to the Gulf of Carpentaria. During the harsh light of day, the Lake and surrounds look barren and featureless. But in the early morning and late afternoon light the shapes, colours, textures, lines and patterns are spectacular especially from the air.
